TTC Old Wives Tales

Over the years I have come across plenty of TTC tales. Just as there are Old Wives Tales when it comes to predicting the gender of a baby, there are ones out there on how to up the chances of getting pregnant too.
Unlike the momma-to-be having acne, or baby having a certain heartrate, the tales regarding how to get pregnant seem to revolve mostly around nutrition.

I should probably have prefaced this post by saying I am *not* superstitious in the least.  I am, however, all about reaping the benefits of eating healthy foods. In my opinion, food is the best medicine out there. So I cant deny that these tales are a little intriguing to me.

Here are a few TTC tales that stick out-

  1. Upping your Bromelian intake, or eating pineapples 🍍🍍🍍 – starting on transfer day, or ovulation day, for about a week, eat a slice of pineapple a day, making sure to keep the core attached to what you eat. I have eaten pineapple on transfer day for a few transfers now. I dont think I continued it past transfer though, not 100% sure.  Supposedly eating this fruit helps with implantation.  Read more about this tale here
  2. Boosting Selenium, or eating (Brazilian) nuts 🌰🌰🌰-never tried this one, although I have heard about it from a lot of you ladies. Again, some suggest it assists with embryo implantation.  Read more here
  3. Pom Juice for a healthy uterine lining and increased blood flow-again, never tried this tale. I did try Raspberry Red Leaf Tea for this particular reason during one cycle. It did happen to be the cycle my lining thickened quite a bit, not sure if it played a part in it or not. Poms and other fertility friendly food reading
  4. Keeping your feet warm, or body warm-my nana always taught me this was a smart move since I was a kid, and I have gone on to hear about the health benefits of it in general over the years. I just recently saw it as a TTC tip. More on this here

So my questions for you ladies are…

  • Did you try any of these during your cycle? If so, which ones?
  • Are there any other tales you think are worth while?
  • Did you achieve success or failure using any of these?
  • If you havent tried any of these yet, do you plan to try any in the future?

I have no idea if I will pursue any of these tales during our future FET or not. I do know I will continue to keep it healthy though which I believe is most important!

  1. Nope…not tried any of these!!! It’s an interesting list!!! Honestly, I’ve resigned to the fact that if the doctors can’t help me goodness knows how a pineapple will 😉 although some of these things as part of a normal healthy diet wouldn’t ever hurt (like pineapples!! Except pineapples are one of my IBS triggers, so may be not for me 😜)

  2. I tried pineapple, and actually craved it for a few days before I found out I was pregnant the second time. I also inadvertently kept my body pretty warm when I got pregnant with Luke. I was taking piping hot showers and lobster baths, sleeping on a heating pad……the works. Could be a coincidence, but I don’t know. All I know is that I stayed pretty warm throughout my pregnancy and only noticed that Luke likes hot baths too

  3. I do pineapple core and keep myself warm. I do believe that keeping myself warm including my feet is going to help with blood flow in the uterus. I wear socks at all times now even in bed. The pineapple thing is just to do it. Plus I love pineapple. In general, I don’t drink cold things during my cycles. Only warm or hot beverages. I believe it also helps with keep me warm. I also do bone broth: http://www.acupuncturetoday.com/mpacms/at/article.php?id=32643

  4. I ate pineapple core the cycle we got pregnant! I was gagging by the last day, but I did it, lol. I don’t fully contribute the pregnancy to that though but it’s amusing that it happened that way. My acupuncturist advised me to keep warm and eat/drink warm things as well so I did. Warm teas, soups and avoided smoothies and salads.

  5. I’m also tempted to cave into this, BUT then the rational part of my personality kicks in. I just keep thinking that if all these hormones and doctors don’t result in a pregnancy, I doubt socks will! BUT hey, if it works, why not?!?!?!

  6. I’m guilty of doing most of these things before our fresh cycle (which technically DID work…), and now that I’m back in a semi-regular cycle will keep up with some of them. Specifically, I ate pineapple core, Brazil nuts, walnuts, drank semi-chilled coconut water, lemon water, kept warm, avoided super cold drinks, avoided super hot showers, wore socks round the clock, and drank pom juice. Way I see it, these are all healthy things to be doing anyway, so they can’t hurt!

  7. I tried the Pineapple, Brazil nuts, raspberry leaf tea (up to ec only)and keeping my feet warm! The raspberry leaf tea did help my lining apart from that I am not sure if any of it did anything. I figured there was no harm though and at least I felt like I was doing something post transfer when all the scans etc stops. Note avocado is also supposed to be good I made smoothies with 1 slice pineapple, 1/4 avocado and coconut water and drank for 1 week post transfer 😀

  8. Whenever I see pineapple on sale, I’ll buy it and eat it after post ovulation after we’ve tried to conceive. Haven’t gotten pregnant yet but I will be going for IVF in the next month and I guess it won’t hurt to try! I’ll let you know if it works 😉!
