Good Riddance Halloween

Here is my Negative Nelly (PMS) post for the day…the top 10 reasons why Halloween sucked this year-

  1. We didn’t have our babies here to put those cute “My First Halloween” shirts on, as we were supposed to. These types of photos continually flooded my FB feed all day and night.
  2. We didn’t have a kid to dress up and take trick or treating, and subsequently argue with about much candy they were allowed to eat.
  3. We have no kids that trick or treat in our neighboorhood-literally we do not get even 1 knock on our door, and its not like we live in the boon docks or something. Weird.
  4. It was 88 degrees. Seriously? Who wants a heat wave on Halloween?
  5. I went to Publix to grocery shop. I got in line at the deli. The guy who waited on me wanted to make small talk and I really wasnt in the mood.  Long story short, he asked me if I had any kids. When I told him I didnt, he had the NERVE to ask my why not. You have got to be kidding me! I cant even go to the grocery store without encountering a person who has no regard of how to mind their own business. Its one thing to ask me if I have kids, but to go on to pry as to why I dont, when we are complete strangers and not only that, we are at your place of work, totally boggles my mind. You might be wondering how I answered. I’m surprised I didnt tell him off; instead I pulled my teacher card excuse out and stated, “oh I am around 20 of them everyday.”  He left me alone. I should have reported his ass.
  6. My husband was on call for the holiday. I hate holidays without him.
  7. I woke up with a pounding headache and scratchy throat. Hope I’m not getting sick.
  8. I had to work pretty much all day on the virtual course I teach at the college.
  9. No pumpkins were carved this Halloween.
  10. Lastly, I miss my dog, Nacho.  We used to dress him up for Halloween often.  I looked through some old pictures of his costumes and it must have set me off. I balled my eyes out to the point of choking and trying to catch my breath as I tightly squeezed my other half. I still blame myself for a lot of how my almost 17 year old baby spent his last days, and unfortunately I rehashed it yesterday. About once every 3 months since he has been gone I do this. Hard to believe he had been gone for 16 months now.
Nacho & I Halloween 2007

Okay, my rant is over now…And so is Halloween, thank God!  I have never been a fan of it, but something about this year made it much more noticable than usual.

Anyways, I am so ready for my 2 favorite holidays, what I like to call the real holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. See ya later, October! Welcome November!

Busy Weekend Actively Coping

If you read my last post about my therapy session with Dr. G, you would know I am trying to live through my grief by actively coping. Basically, this equates to living my life as happily as I can while still stuck in the thros of IVF and RPL.

Thursday kicked off my weekend since Friday was a teacher workday.  Anyone who teaches knows that the days without the children are pretty much considered days off.  This being said, I went out with an old friend for dinner and drinks Thursday night.  I hadnt seen her in several months so it was nice to catch up and have some laughs.

Although Friday was a day without students, it still ended up being a whirlwind of a day. I had to attend professional development, get grades and comments done for report cards, and decorate my door for Red Ribbon Week (drug prevention program).  I ended up working from 7:45 until 6:15.  Long day, but got what I needed to accomplished.

My last name is Fish so I am always using my name to my advantage! The kids love it! They each got a sea creature and a speech bubble for their drug free message.

Saturday I woke up and started grading college work for the online class I teach. Of course, grades are due for both of my jobs at the same time.  After getting most of it done, and running some errands, I took a break and hit the pool with a friend for a few hours. So relaxing!
Later, it was time to hit the 8th Annual Halloween party we attend each year. Hubs and I had originally planned to go as clowns, but made a switch at the last minute. I guess you could say we were rocking a “western theme.” The party was a blast! The decorations, food, games, and people were all amazing.

On our way to the rodeo

Today, I woke up feeling quite exhausted from being on the run for 3 days.  It still didnt stop though! My friend and I planned to attend a craft show in a cute part of town.  We browsed and had lunch, both feeling a little rough from the late night before.  Look at what I got, adorable…

Eventually, I came home, finalized the college course grades, and did some house work.  Not much house work might I add. My husband is off Tuesday and he said he will take care of it then…thank God! I am beat and its back to the grind tomorrow.  Not only is it of the start of Quarter 2 at school, but a new college course I am teaching starts up this week.  Ugh.

Oh, and how could I forget to tell you that none other than my lovely period graced me with her presence today…4 DAYS LATE.  Im never late, but knew better than to think I could be pregnant, especially when not even trying (thats what happens to normal couples lol).  So, I just took a bubble bath, some motrin, and put on the heating pad.

I do have some upbeat, positive fertility news to share sometime this week. Stay tuned!

Fall Decorating/Shopping Day

I finally put out my (very simple) fall decorations yesterday.  The weather dipped into the 70’s (coldfront!) this weekend and I figured I better take advantage of the opportunity of it being somewhat fallish.  Plus, I was getting sick of just looking at the boxes that held all the decorations in them.

Here are a few pics of how it all turned out:

Pumpkin centerpiece on our dining table

Scarecrow I picked up at a yard sale

Mom pumpkin and her baby pumpkin

Fall cornucopia

Another pumpkin duo

Florida spin on the fall…seashells with autumn leaves

Flower centerpiece on our kitchen table

Another cute scarecrow

Notice the 2 little pumpkins on each end of the TV stand

The best for last…Tom the Turkey! My favorite!

After decorating, I ran to Party City to check out the Halloween costumes. Every year we attend our dear friends annual party, where my husband & I like to dress as a couple if we can. Here are some pics of our prior couple costumes:

Pirate theme

Popeye & Olive Oil

The Cat & Cat Burgular

Nerd & Naughty Teacher

A fisherman & his fish

Ninja & Geisha

Ninja Turtles

Originally, I wasnt sure if we would be attending the party this year because our FET was scheduled for the same week and I would have been on bedrest.  However, since the FET is off, we will be going & having some much needed fun.  My husband wants us to be clowns this year (dont ask my why, I think they are creepy), so thats what I was on the hunt for at Party City. I ended up buying bits and pieces of accessories to put together our costumes instead of purchasing the pre-packaged in a bag costumes.  I will be a cute clown, and he will be more of an evil looking clown (even creepier!).  I will post pics after!
