The Diary of a Pregnant Woman, Vol. 2

So this week has been full of appointments as usual.

  • Appointment with OB-routine visit, checked urine, blood pressure, weight, Isaac’s heartbeat, and (new this visit) fundal height. She said my fundal height was measuring a little large for how many weeks I am. I didnt bother asking for a number. My mentality is Id rather it be larger than smaller. I got my glucola drink and scheduled that appointment. Praying I pass!
  • We talked about baby’s movement at the appt. Ive been somewhat worried because I hear so much about all these women feeling strong movement pretty early on. Even though I felt flutters at 15 weeks and the intensity has definitely picked up, the movement is still quite sporadic. Like for instance, I might feel him in the early morning, but then not again until nighttime. So she told me that even though its early, try to count the kicks and I would probably be pleasantly surprised. I followed her instructions the past few days (drank something cold and sweet, waited 20 minutes, laid down) and realized he is doing just fine. I feel at least 10 movements pretty quickly actually. Thank God! I guess I just needed to focus in on it more to see.
  • We interviewed a third (and final) pediatrician. 3 is enough, dont want to overwhelm ourselves with options. The places have consisted of 1.) a small, one doctor practice, 2.) a large, 6 doctor practice, and 3.) an in-between practice with 3 doctors. There are so many factors to consider when choosing a pedi (cleanliness, experience, on-site services, after hours, vaccines, wait times, hospital privileges, etc.) But honestly, for us, it really boiled down to a gut feeling. This is the same way we were with choosing our RE. We figure we can always change should we need to, but we are starting out at the smallest practice of the 3 practices. Glad thats taken care of!!

  • We attended session 1 of 2 at the hospital for “parenting & infant care.” Can I just tell you how awful session 1 was? It should be called “all the ways you can kill your baby.” I understand that it’s reality and important to point out all the things that can happen in order to be preventive, but it was really tough for me to sit through the class. From drowning, to SIDS, to choking, to shaking baby, to poisons, fires, my gosh. And we were showed videos of actual situations where children died. Was that necessary? Ugh. Anyways, session 2 is supposed to be much better (according to both one of my friends who took it and the instructor herself), we will have fake dolls and change baby, burp baby, swaddle baby, etc.

  • Tomorrow we go to the MFM for a 25 week growth scan. Praying all is on track. Will update soon on that.

Aside from appointments, other news-

  • All shower invites went out and people are starting to RSVP! Exciting, but hard to believe it is here in just a month. We have already started to receive some gifts from out of state family (over half of our list is out of state), and for any big items they send, we are keeping the boxes and plan to take those to the shower wrapped without the items inside (hubby’s idea and I love it!). The smaller ones we get wont be an issue to take with the contents inside of them. This way even the people out of state who cant make it will be celebrating with us that day!
  • I decorated for fall already. I love fall. I usually wait until it technically begins in a few weeks, but being home not working, I figured why not. Now if only the heat would go away. So over it.
  • I have been thinking pretty seriously about cloth diapering. I joined a few Facebook groups and started my own research. I should have prefaced this by saying my stomach has been weaker than it normally is not pregnant. Anyways, in a few of the posts I came across, several ladies were having trouble with bugs. In the dirty diapers. Like maggots or eggs, or whatever. That was it for me. I told hubby about it and he pointed out how we live in South Florida and its a possibility. No thanks. As a new mom, I cant say how often I would be washing these diapers yet or blame them for it. Ive had all kinds of freaking bugs around my house & I keep it clean. So the plan is to start with disposables, I registered for a few different kinds, and go from there. Maybe one day. End of story.
  • The closet in miracle’s room is pretty much done! I love it!

Until next time!!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas. My favorite. Since I was a child, it has always been.

Im sure my mother’s influence plays a part in my liking; it is also her favorite holiday.   Growing up, we had decorations to the fullest right alongside the warm traditions. Being a Christian also plays a big part of my love for Christmas. Knowing Jesus was born on this day brings so much joy!

I only decorate twice a year- fall & Christmas. And my fall decorations are minimal compared to my Christmas ones. Prior to this year, all of our decorations have pretty much been interior only.  Why? We always wanted to paint and have gutters installed before we moved the show outdoors. Well, as you might recall, we have both of these done now, and I am super excited to announce that we are decorating the exterior this year!

In addition, we will be decorating earlier than usual. In the past, we have always begun on Black Friday and continued through the weekend. However, we will be gone over Thanksgiving week this year so that is not an option. Instead, we will begin both the inside and outside this weekend coming up. Im guessing it will take me about 3-4 full days to get the inside done, and my hubby 2 for the outside.  I have about 10 tubs or so in the attic of stuff, along with 3 decent sized trees. It takes awhile to sort through them and lay it all out.

Anyways, my hubby and I went to Lowe’s and did some damage on exterior lights yesterday. We knew beforehand that this would be the case so we werent that surprised. We got the LED ice blue and white icicle lights for the perimeter, matching tube lighting for our columns, and matching netting for our bushes.  We also got a sparkly, oversized LED Frosty for the lawn. I am trying to talk my hubby into getting the tube lighting for our roof too (just running it up to the center peak in 4 lines from each corner of the house). I dont think it will be that hard to convince him since he has been saying he wants to do it anyways. We just figured we would start with this and go back for the rest.

Of course with all the lighting came extension cords, clips, timers and such. And I just couldnt pass up the cute santa dog hats for our two little stinkers!

Fall Decorating/Shopping Day

I finally put out my (very simple) fall decorations yesterday.  The weather dipped into the 70’s (coldfront!) this weekend and I figured I better take advantage of the opportunity of it being somewhat fallish.  Plus, I was getting sick of just looking at the boxes that held all the decorations in them.

Here are a few pics of how it all turned out:

Pumpkin centerpiece on our dining table

Scarecrow I picked up at a yard sale

Mom pumpkin and her baby pumpkin

Fall cornucopia

Another pumpkin duo

Florida spin on the fall…seashells with autumn leaves

Flower centerpiece on our kitchen table

Another cute scarecrow

Notice the 2 little pumpkins on each end of the TV stand

The best for last…Tom the Turkey! My favorite!

After decorating, I ran to Party City to check out the Halloween costumes. Every year we attend our dear friends annual party, where my husband & I like to dress as a couple if we can. Here are some pics of our prior couple costumes:

Pirate theme

Popeye & Olive Oil

The Cat & Cat Burgular

Nerd & Naughty Teacher

A fisherman & his fish

Ninja & Geisha

Ninja Turtles

Originally, I wasnt sure if we would be attending the party this year because our FET was scheduled for the same week and I would have been on bedrest.  However, since the FET is off, we will be going & having some much needed fun.  My husband wants us to be clowns this year (dont ask my why, I think they are creepy), so thats what I was on the hunt for at Party City. I ended up buying bits and pieces of accessories to put together our costumes instead of purchasing the pre-packaged in a bag costumes.  I will be a cute clown, and he will be more of an evil looking clown (even creepier!).  I will post pics after!

Fall Holiday

Yesterday was officially a fall holiday off from work. Our day off had originally been booked with appointments centering around the upcoming FET that ended up getting cancelled (day 3 ultra and blood). We also had a SA set up for Shane since its been well over 2 years now since his varicocele repair.  We have been pretty much getting them done every 6 months since the surgery for data points, and over time have watched them slowly, but steadily increase.

Anyways, we cancelled all of these appointments.  For obvious reasons the day 3 is off and the SA can wait. Neither one of us felt like driving an hour south for it.  Getting pregnant right now isnt an option, so the SA is irrelevant.

We spent the day relaxing and getting my fall decorations out of the attic.  I wanted to put all my items out on display, but I have a hard time doing so when its still so darn hot out. Like 90! However, if I wait for a cold front to come in I might miss the whole season. I think I will break down and do it this weekend.

We also went to Nutrition Smart, a local health food store in our area.  We stocked up on more COQ10, and our soaps and body washes we always get there.  Additionally, I invested in some Castor Oil packs.

I have been researching these packs for sometime now.  Many women use them to help naturally heal their fibroids and I figure I might as well give it a shot.  I inquired with the lady who worked there about what most people use them for (just to see what she would say) without telling her my knowledge of what they are used for…I was pleasantly surprised when she replied quickly with “fibroids.”  As we speak, I am currently “soaking” in this sticky oil! My dogs seem to think I have some type of food lathered on my body…I have been fighting them off me the whole time.

One last thing regarding my MRI next week. As you know, the specialist at the hospital who my RE initially wanted to read the MRI couldnt be found. He quit. I still scheduled at the outpatient hospital he used to work at.  After scheduling, I received a message from the scheduling dept. saying they needed to speak with me about my appt. time. When I called back the lady asked if I could come in earlier in the day for it…I explained that I am a teacher 2 counties away and no I couldnt, that I already set it all up workwise.  I asked her why and she said they needed to maintenance the MRI machines at their location! Im sorry, but not exactly what I wanted to hear. I know all machines need maintenance, but with my luck it is probably a faulty machine or something.

She offered that I could keep my original time and go to the actual, “real” hospital for the MRI if I wanted.  The hospital that I had my last d & c at…where our last baby was taken from my body.  I hate that hospital.  Really, all hospitals for that matter (aka place of death).  And I havent been back to a hospital since that awful day back in February.  BUT, I sucked it up and said “OK.”  Hopefully I will get a working machine, a pleasant tech, and be in and out of that place.  Hospitals are big places and Im praying I am nowhere near the same section I was last time.  Until then my friends ….
