10 Years

Next year, in 2017, hubby and I will be married 10 years! I cant believe it. I really cant imagine my life without that man. He is amazing and makes me very proud each day!

Hence this will not be a post discussing how long we have been trying to make a baby for unsucessfully, or anything of the sort. Because in all actuality, over the past 16 years, we have experienced so much more together than just trying to conceive, and it wouldnt be fair to act as if our whole relationship is based on this IVF/miscarriage crap.

So anyways, I want to start planning a 10 year anniversary trip for us next year. I still remember the day we got married, as we were standing at the altar, ready to say our vows, the pastor told us to never stop planning out our future anniversaries. 10 years, 20 years, 50 years…plan them out & dream about them together.  Those words stuck with me.

We always do something for our anniversary weekend, even if its just a dinner or a local night away, we make it special.  But I feel like 10 years is a bigger one, and Id like to travel somewhere together. This Christmas, we bought a scratch off map of the world (so cool) and pinned it up in our office. As you visit places around the world, you scratch them off. Yes, just like a scratch off ticket! Lol. Thats when we realized we really havent been many places at all together.  To date, outside of the continental U.S., only Mexico, St. Thomas, & Canada.

We have kicked around venturing to the Bahamas, its super close by (only a 30 minute plane ride from Palm Beach) and we could also cruise there easily if we dont want to fly.  A few years ago we did a cruise (it was nice), and Im not sure if we should go that route again or fly somewhere instead. We do like the all-inclusive model regardless of the mode of transportation used to get to the destination.

I would really love some ideas on affordable, romantic spots (preferably outside of Florida) for an anniversary trip from you all!! It doesnt have to be dirt cheap (just not talking a trip to Italy here) and it doesnt have to be tropical either. We are up for snow capped location if there is a diamond-in-the-rough spot to be found.  For example, the Poconos look amazing!

Here is what we are looking for:

  • Adult, couple-like atmosphere
  • Good service
  • Good food
  • Secluded but scenic
  • Relaxing!
  • Physical activities to partake in when desired
  • More on the quiet side than the commercialized crazy side
  • Reasonable price
  • Comfy sleeping quarters

Okay, friends, please share your secret spots with me so I can start planning out this trip for the BIG 1-0!

  1. So exciting.. Tony and I haven’t been a lot of places either, we did a cruise to the Bahamas for our 10th and that was beautiful. And the idea of a scratch off map is genius! I love that idea! Happy Anniversary soon!

  2. We love Asheville! From this area of Florida you can either drive or fly on Allegiant Air for pretty cheap. The Biltmore is so fun to visit and there are tons of great food options, breweries, wineries and scenic places to hike too. We have done a few Royal Caribbean cruises too- they are always an easy option out of Florida. We’ve done one to the Bahamas with a stop in Key West and one that did the Bahamas, Grand Cayman and Jamaica.

  3. I have a scratch off map too! Got it a couple of years ago. Our favourite trips were: Iceland, Japan, Norway. Switzerland was so beautiful and magical in the winter too. I wouldn’t recommend Japan in August, though. If you’re interested in Brazil, I can give you lots of suggestions and tips. South of Europe has many beautiful places too, but August is high season, not the best. I love travelling and planning, it’s so exciting! Have fun searching!

  4. Love this idea!!! Bahamas from Florida is a must! It’s super easy (we did the 30 min flight from WPB). Another great place that’s easy from Florida is Puerto Rico! I have been and can’t wait to go back. It’s one of the next places on our list to go together.

      • I don’t remember the type of room, but we were on the ground floor of one of the buildings and we had a terrace outside of our room. It was really very lovely and big. I have pictures I could share if you want… shoot me an email if you want to see them 🙂 IMO the whole grounds were really nice.

  5. Door County, WI! 🙂 Especially if you go in the Fall. Summer it’s busy and you’re going to run into families, but you could easily find a secluded cabin or house to rent and it’s beautiful with lots of cute shops, restaurants and wineries. 🙂

  6. So many cool suggestions on here! My hubby and I are thinking of going to Iceland. This time of year the northern lights are supposed to be the clearest, and, girl, they have natural hot springs! Jus sayin. 😉

  7. An anniversary trip sounds great!! Have you ever been to Costa Rica? It’s one of my favorite places and it’s a small country so you can do so much…zip lining, lounge in a pool at the base of a volcano, and relax at the beach! Love the scratch off map…my hubby and I have a large map in our house and we have put pins in every country we have been. Xo

      • I haven’t been back for years, but lived there for 10 months in college and loved the country and the people. Manuel Antonio is gorgeous and there are lots of monkeys and beautiful beaches. Playa Tamarindo is also beautiful and there are tons of other beaches close by. Volcano aernal is a great spot to stay a night and visit the hot springs. Just some suggestions! 🙂 hope you find a great place to vacation!

  8. I really love the advice of never stopping the planning of your anniversaries. My husband and I don’t buy each other gifts for birthdays or Christmas and instead put the money into a mini getaway each year for our anniversary. So far we’ve done D.C.; Annapolis, MD; NYC; Sanibel Island, FL; England & Wales (this was a bigger one because it was our 5th anniversary and can’t-get-pregnant trip), and then this year our anniversary was on the day after my mother in laws funeral so we were in FL for that but didn’t really celebrate. However, I would highly recommend Nova Scotia in Canada. The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island is so underrated. I don’t know how more people don’t know about it because it is seriously incredibly beautiful! Before that trip (a pre-grad school/ goodbye to stable income trip that turned into a babymoon), we were also considereing the Pacific Northwest as I’ve always wanted to see Washington State and Oregon. Good luck planning! I absolutely love to plan out trips. 😊

  9. Love the idea of a scratch off map! Our 10th anniversary is also coming up in summer 2017 and we’ve been looking into different options for a big trip. I’d love to do a Europe trip but the cost is kind of a deal breaker so I’ve looked at places in Aruba, Jamaica, and Sedona.

  10. Have you done wine country (Napa area) here in California? If you go off the main commercialized places there is everything you are looking for. Secluded lodging with amazing food, close to a big city (SF) if you want to do hat for a day. Gorgeous beach front cabins, lots of delicious wine and beautiful scenic bike rides and car drives. If you have any interest I can send you lots of recommendations separately. Xo

  11. Seeing as you’re in Florida I would recommend a European tour, taking in England (well, the whole of the U.K. – Scotland and Wales and Ireland are ace too), France, Italy, Germany etc! I can give you recommendations for London and Italy! Also there are very nice spots on nearby islands like the Balearics (Ibiza and Mallorca and Menorca) and the Canary Islands (always warm, even in Winter!). Sailing round them is awesome.

  12. Actually as you are in North America why not do South America? There is amazing nature as well as sports and adventure. The inca trail, Iguazu falls, Punta Del Este, salt flats, Patagonia etc. Tonnes to do there!
